Paxil's Link to Breast CancerIn a recent study, the usage of Paxil (paroxetine) has been linked to the increase of mortality rates of breas t cancer deaths. The study shows that breast cancer patients over the age of 66 using both Tamoxifen for cancer treatment and Paxil, are more likely to die from breast cancer. According to the British Medical Journal, if Paxil is taken with Tamoxifen, the risk of death cancer can increase 24 percent if taken 25 percent of the Tamoxifen treatment. Patients taking Paxil for 75 percent of the duration saw their risk jump to 91 percent. The data excludes women younger than 66 because the data sets are much less complete. However, physicians are urged to discontinue perscribing Paxil in conjunction with Tamoxifen. It is belived that further studies on younger women would yield the same results.
