FL - Cindy’s mother was given Dilantin 10 years back as her physician thought she had suffered a stroke. Cindy says that Dilantin caused her mother to have a terrific and painful death after developing Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS). Three weeks after started using Dilantin, Cindy’s mother suffered from a sore throat and developed a rash. Her doctor said she possibly had an allergic reaction to something she had eaten and it would soon clear up. “But the rash got worse. She was not able to even swallow. It was on her tongue,” Cindy said. Cindy said that the doctor asked them to go ahead and finish the prescription. “If the doctor would have taken mum off Dilantin a week sooner, it might have saved her life,” she said. Cindy said that her mother lived in an adult care center with such a pain that Cindy spent the night with her. “By 6AM, I got her into a wheelchair and took her to ER. She had a fever and chills and was really miserable. They did some blood work and right away the doctors said, ‘we know what it is: she has SJS from taking Dilantin’. She never left the hospital,” Cindy said. “This drug has left me feeling sickened with the pharamaceutical industry for making all this money and the FDA for putting Dilantin on the market and subsequently killing people,” Cindy said.
