Health Canada, the Federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health, publicized its discoveries on Botox injections. According to the department, toxins present in Botox products can reach at distant parts of the body, which may result in potentially terminal health problems. In Canada, however, no medically confirmed cases of the toxin have been reported. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had said the toxins were present in agency-approved as well as unapproved products. After this disclosure, Health Canada decided to carry out an assessment on the Botox products, which were out in the market that time. The studies made by Health Canada found that a patient may feel muscle weakness, difficulty in swallowing, pneumonia, speech disorders and breathing problems if the toxins in Botox spread to the various parts of human body. Botox, a protein injected to reduce or smooth out lines and wrinkles on the face, has been approved by the FDA. In Canada, Botox is also used to treat muscle pains and excessive sweating. Health Canada suggests that patients with neurological disorders, swallowing difficulties or breathing problems must be cautious while using Botox.
