A nationwide lawsuit concerned with the deaths of more than 100 people after being injected with tainted batches of heparin are to be heard in U.S. District Court in Toledo. The transfer was issued Friday by a U.S. Judicial Panel on Multi-District Litigation after Toledo lawyers argued their case. From all over the country, many lawsuits were filed against the company that sold the tainted batches. James Carr, the Chief Judge that presides over the on-going Toledo Terror Trial in federal court, will hear the case. Toledo law firm Zoll, Kranz & Borgess, LLC filed four more wrongful death lawsuits against Baxter Healthcare Corp. in April. The suits alleged that the company was selling tainted heparin. Attorney David Zoll said that they would have an organized meeting a week from Monday, June 16 with the plaintiff’s lawyers across the country. “We are in the process in organizing all of the lawsuits into a single case. We are going to establish a structure where we can handle deposition, discovery and the documents so the people get what they deserve,” Zoll said. In Northwest Ohio, seven people have died due to the tainted heparin. One among them was popular Northwest Ohio radio personality Dennis Staples.
