LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas doctor and his wife were sentenced to imprisonment for 46 months 30 months respectively by U.S. District Court Judge Kent Dawson for treating patients with a Botox knockoff at their clinic in Nevada.

Stephen Lee Seldon, 54, and his wife Deborah Martinez Seldon, 41 were convicted in November for knowingly treating patients with a low quality Botox alternative, known as botulinum toxin type A, that caused at least one person to suffer botulism. According to U.S. Attorney Gregory Brower, the couple was also fined $144,000 for this. Seldon’s medical license was suspended as well.

According to the prosecutors, the Botox substitute was only of research quality and not supposed to use in human.

The defendants have filed an appeal notice after the Dawson’s sentencing on March 27.
