VICTORVILLE – According to a report from the city states, the construction work at the site of Dr Pepper Snapple Group’s bottling plant has been halted on account of a lawsuit over discovery of asbestos and lead. Anyway, the company expects to close escrow on its 55 acres within the coming few days and begin building the plant as early as March 1. An anonymous group known as Grow Victorville Smart is suing the city. Upland-based attorney Cory J. Briggs filed the lawsuit on 16th December. Briggs is the same attorney who has also sued Victorville, Hesperia and Barstow over planned Wal-Mart stores and Glendora over a planned assisted-living community. According to the lawsuit, Victorville failed to address state environmental requirements in cleaning the site, following asbestos tiles and a lead shot were discovered. Asbestos is present in almost all old buildings, according to a retired officer who worked at the former George Air Force Base. He said that the lead was probably from a former shooting range near the site.
