MARSHALL – A 27 year old Mars Hill man is facing a Second-degree murder charge. Autopsy is going on to check if the death of an acquaintance was after ingesting Fentanyl, a well-known painkiller. Larry Russell Roberts was arrested Wednesday in relation with the death of a 28-year-old Mars Hill resident. According to Law enforcement officials, Mr. Andrew Travis Shelton ingested excessive amounts of the drug. Roberts was arrested for selling the drug to Shelton. Shelton was found dead in his driveway Wednesday morning. It appears that he had chewed and swallowed a patch of Fentanyl. The authorities say that the potency was accelerated by chewing the patch. The painkiller patch is designed to release the drug over time. It is much stronger than morphine. According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Roberts was prescribed the drug by a doctor for a number of genuine conditions. The office is waiting for the result of the test to decide whether Shelton’s death was a direct result of chewing the painkiller patch. If this is the case, charges will be upgraded to second-degree murder. Officials believe Roberts had sold the drug to Shelton many times in the past too.
