A seaman is suing Danielle Marine Towing and Lorris G. Towing II Corp., claiming he was injured as a result of the unseaworthiness of a ship on which he was working. Paul E. Parfait alleges he was working on the Luke Guidry Jr., a vessel the defendants own, when he was injured on April 13. Paul Parfait has filed a lawsuit on January 14 in Jefferson County District Court. According to the lawsuit, Parfait was doing his regular duties on the Luke Guidry Jr. when he sustained severe and disabling injuries because of the ship’s unseaworthiness. The complaint doesn’t specify how Parfait was injured. However, the plaintiff claims he suffered physical pain and mental anguish and incurred lost wages due to the incident. Parfait also incurred medical expenses, suffered physical impairment and lost his ability to carry out household services, the complaint states. Parfait argues the defendants refused to pay for his treatment thought they were supposed to provide him with maintenance and cure for his injuries. Parfait is seeking actual, exemplary and punitive damages, in addition to pre and post judgment interest, costs and any other relief the court deems appropriate. Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, will be presiding over the case.
