CINCINNATI (AP) – Many plant workers who claim that their health was damaged by exposure to Diacetyl, a chemical additive used to give microwave popcorn and other snacks a buttery flavor, are suing the makers of the flavoring. According to reports, more than 40 lawsuits have been filed over the dangerous chemical flavor, claiming that the lungs of the plaintiffs were damaged by inhaling the fumes of Diacetyl. Some of the plaintiffs work at a local plant of Givaudan Flavors Corp. of Cincinnati, an organization that supplies the flavoring to food manufacturers. Some of them are from a Marion (Ohio) plant owned by Omaha based ConAgra Foods. Just one month back, a jury had awarded $7.5 million to Ronald Kuiper, a former Sioux City microwave popcorn worker in a Diacetyl lawsuit against Givaudan. Unfortunately, the man had passed away one day prior to the ruling.
