ORLANDO, FL – A woman who had taken an Ambien pill last week to facilitate her sleep robbed and raped. She found this when she woke up, but she was not able to remember anything. It happened when the woman was sleeping in her apartment on Irma Avenue near downtown Orlando after taking the pill. As the woman doesn’t have much clue regarding the person who raped and robbed her, she was unable to help the police to catch the attacker. According to the woman, she took the sleeping pill at 12:30 a.m. Friday. She says she might have gone to the nearby 7-Eleven to get cigarettes sometime after 1 a.m. The woman remembers speaking to a Hispanic man who was sitting in his car. However, that’s the last thing she can remember until she woke up at 7 a.m. Friday naked in her own bed. Binge eating (a pattern of disordered eating which consists of episodes of uncontrollable overeating), insomnia (sleep walking) and sleep driving are some rare side effects associated with Ambien. The woman went to the hospital right away when she woke up on Friday. She reported vaginal soreness and believed she had been sexually assaulted. Additionally, she lost a laptop, two iPods and some jewelry while sleeping after taking the drug, according to the victim. The woman said that she had a history of memory loss when using Ambien. The incident is being investigated by the sex crimes unit of the Orlando Police Department. Class action lawsuits have been filed against the drug maker.
