The Bumbo Baby Sitter Seat is a soft foam chair that is made-up to allow infants to sit straight without the aid of straps. The product is sold by Bumbo International of South Africa in the United States, England, Japan, Australia, France, Portugal, and South Africa. Bumbo International claims that the product is designed with the seat lower than the leg openings so that children will remain secure. But the Bumbo Baby Sitter Seats didn’t always work as it is meant for. Two children in California and Kansas fell down from a Bumbo Baby Sitter Seat placed on a counter and cracked their skulls. The baby in California required an emergency surgery to save his life. Bumbo Baby Sitter Seat was recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in October 2007 following reports that several children had sustained serious head injuries after falling from the popular infant seat. The CPSC started investigating the Bumbo Baby Sitter Seats after media reports spread about the popular baby seat’s injury causing hazards. CPSC says at least 28 children have fallen from the Bumbo Baby Sitter Seat, and three of those babies suffered skull fractures. Most of those injuries happened when the baby sitter seats were placed on a raised surface such as a table or countertop. The Bumbo baby Sitter Seat has a small caution label asking not to use it on a raised surface. But some of its sales agents use a different message. They say the chair is safe on “any level surface”. Some advertising pictures showed children sitting in the Bumbo Baby Sitter Seat on an elevated surface. It should be noted that the CPSC has warned consumers not to use the Bumbo Baby Sitter Seats on a raised surface. CPSC has requested consumers to contact Bumbo for new warning label stickers and directions. The new caution tag states: “WARNING – Prevent Falls; Never use on any elevated surface.” Free initial consultation - If your or a loved one’s child has suffered an injury or death after falling from a Bumbo Baby Sitter Seats infant seat, please fill out and submit the form at the right or contact us today at 1-800-780-2686
